Intervention Gastrointestinal Disorders
There are a number of important gastrointestinal disorders that individuals may have that can be improved or managed by dietary changes. For this particular issue, it is extremely important that your physician or gastroenterologist inform your dietitian of the type of diet that you should follow.
These include interventions for celiac disease, gluten intolerance, gastroparesis (or slow stomach emptying) and post surgical diets with gastrointestinal changes.
In addition it can be important to manage symptoms of GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) and LPRD (laryngeal pharangeal reflux disease) to control symptoms and to change associated lifestyle contributors.
As the diagnosis of these disorders increases with the increase in more exacting imaging and testing for these disorders, it is even more important to have a Registered Dietitian assist you in making a diet that supports your lifestyle and your nutritional needs. The plan must be made according to each patient's individual circumstances, dietary preferences and medical condition.
Susan has been practicing since 1987 and has significant experience with a variety of these disorders and their nutritional treatment.
If a client does not appear to be a good candidate for outpatient nutritional
counseling, they will be referred back to their primary health care professional
or mental health practitioner or another health care professional. Every
effort is made to coordinate care with existing health care and mental health
professionals to maintain quality of care.
